π‘ Tip of the Month
Metrics seems to be the π₯ topic of the month, so it's only right that we follow suit.
The Casted CX team huddled up and agreed that this is a perfect opportunity to talk about Downloads vs. Plays.
Downloads reflect engagement on podcast apps, or in other words, when someone listens to your show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or similar.
The data we receive from a download is limited. We are unable to see how long they listened or whether or not they've engaged with your content before.
Plays reflect engagement on any Casted web player (pages, embeds, playlists).
We receive much more data from Plays, including length of engagement, how many Plays came from a unique individual, and whether or not prior engagement occurred.
Downloads and Plays are added together to create the Total Audience metric.
Hovering over this metric will populate the individual values for Downloads and Plays.
It's important to know where the majority of your Audience is engaging (is it Downloads or Plays?), especially as you work to identify and understand your audience.
Integrating with HubSpot, Marketo, or Pardot are huge for web-based content like webinars, events recaps, and product videos. With podcasts, however, your audience will likely be tuning in on their favorite app... potentially introducing a huge blind spot.
In fact, in 2022, 95% of our customers' engagements came from Downloads.
Don't worry... you can use Casted Insights to identify the brands tuning in on podcast apps. As a bonus, it can catch any unknown contacts that your integration won't pick up, too!
